Yam-ut-Tarwiyya – The Day of Quenching Thirstu
The 8th of Dhul-Hijjah marks the official beginning of the sacred Hajj rituals. Known as Yaum-ut-Tarwiyya, this day holds deep historical and spiritual significance as millions of pilgrims begin their journey toward Mina. It is a day of preparation, intention, and devotion, setting the tone for the days that follow.
Preparing for Ihram
For Tamattu Pilgrims
If you are performing Hajj Tamattu, you will enter Ihram again from Makkah on the morning of the 8th. Take a ritual bath, wear the Ihram garments, and make the intention for Hajj. Maintain the state of purity and avoid all actions prohibited during Ihram.
For Qiran and Ifrad Pilgrims
Pilgrims performing Qiran or Ifrad remain in Ihram from the beginning. No new Ihram is required. After sunrise, proceed directly from Makkah to Mina.
The Sacred Journey to Mina
As you set out after sunrise, continuously recite the Talbiyah:
“Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.”
